Frequently Asked Questions

Everything you need to know when booking a session with Pax Terra Wellness

What is Reiki?

Reiki is a gentle, hands-on (or hands-near) energy healing practice that supports the body's natural ability to relax, rebalance, and heal. It works with life force energy (ki) that flows through all living beings. Reiki is non-invasive, deeply calming, and accessible to everyone—no belief system required.

What can Reiki help with?

Reiki can support: - Emotional stress, anxiety, grief, and burnout - Sleep issues and nervous system dysregulation - Mental clarity and spiritual reconnection - Chronic tension, fatigue, or energetic stagnation - Physical discomfort - Life transitions, creative blocks, or spiritual overwhelm - Calming and healing support for animals Clients often report feeling more grounded, emotionally clear, deeply relaxed, and reconnected after a session.

Is this legit? Isn't Reiki just "woo-woo" psuedoscience or a placebo?

Valid question! Many people are unsure about Reiki because it doesn’t follow a traditional Western medical model. Reiki is a complementary wellness practice, not a replacement for medical care, and has been studied in clinical settings for its ability to support nervous system regulation, stress reduction, pain management, and emotional well-being. Institutions like NIH, Cleveland Clinic, and MD Anderson Cancer Center have explored Reiki as part of integrative care. While the mechanisms may not be fully understood, research shows promising outcomes in areas like heart rate variability, perceived pain, and anxiety reduction. At Pax Terra Wellness, I offer Reiki as a gentle support for your whole being - not as magic, and not as a substitute for medical care.

Who do you work with?

I work with: - Folks navigating burnout, grief, or life transitions - People doing deep emotional or inner healing work - Individuals on a journey to enhance mind-body connection and spirituality - Sensitive and neurodivergent individuals - LGBTQIA+ and BIPOC clients seeking an affirming healing space - Professionals, caregivers, creatives, and activists who hold a lot for others - Anyone craving grounding, clarity, or calm in a noisy world You’re welcome here exactly as you are: tired, tender, curious, overwhelmed, skeptical, open, or all of the above.

Who are you, and what are your qualifications?

I'm Victoria (she/her), a certified Usui Reiki practitioner, animal healer, and ordained minister through the Universal Life Church. My Reiki lineage is just 9 degrees from Mikao Usui Sensei - the founder of the practice - and I hold deep respect for its Japanese origins and teachers. My path to energy work began through animal rescue. Over the years, I’ve cared for hundreds of animals in shelters, sanctuaries, and homes, specializing in fostering and rehabilitating those who were scared, sick, or grieving. Through these experiences, as well as incorporating Reiki into my own healing journey with chronic illness, I learned how powerful and intuitive healing energy truly is. These animals taught me how to listen. Reiki gave me the language to share that with others. I'm also a committed vegan, trauma-aware, and deeply values-driven. I hold space for all identities and backgrounds and practice with compassionate non-attachment, inclusivity, and a reverence for each person's unique path.

Is Reiki a religion? Do I need to hold certain beliefs to receive it?

No. Reiki is not a religion and requires no specific belief. It’s a spiritual healing art rooted in Japanese philosophy and practice. I do hold ordination as a minister through the Universal Life Church, which allows me to honor sacred space and spiritual connection for those who desire it - but Reiki itself is completely non-dogmatic.

How do you honor the origins of Reiki?

Reiki is a gift I’ve been entrusted with, not a service I claim to own. I strive to share it with care, clarity, and cultural respect. I honor the roots of Reiki by practicing with respect, intention, and reverence for its origins in early 20th-century Japan. Reiki is not something I claim to own, rebrand, or reinvent. It’s a tradition that has been passed down through a sacred lineage, and I treat it as such. I was trained and attuned in Usui Shiki Ryoho, the traditional system founded by Mikao Usui. My Reiki lineage traces directly back to Usui Sensei through just nine degrees of separation, and I openly share that lineage with all clients. You can view it under "Reiki Lineage." At Pax Terra Wellness, I: -Acknowledge Mikao Usui and the original Japanese teachers who preserved and passed down this practice -Use Reiki terms and teachings as they were given, without westernized reinterpretation -Avoid appropriative language or blending sacred practices from cultures I don’t belong to -Offer energy work with humility, not ego, and always in right relationship with the work I also create space for feedback, questions and curiosity. Honoring tradition means encouraging conscious awareness, not gatekeeping.

What does Reiki feel like?

Everyone experiences Reiki a little differently, but most people describe it as deeply calming and restorative. Some clients feel gentle warmth, coolness, tingling, or a sense of energy moving through the body. Others experience emotional release, vivid imagery, or a meditative state of stillness. And sometimes, it just feels like deep rest—like being wrapped in a blanket of calm. There’s no “right” way to feel. Your body will take what it needs, whether or not your mind fully understands it. Reiki is subtle, but powerful—and it continues to work gently in the hours or days after a session.

What should I expect during a Reiki session?

You’ll lie down fully clothed on a comfortable table with soft music. I’ll lightly place my hands on or just above your body, guiding energy through intuitive and traditional hand placements. You may feel warmth, tingling, emotional release, or simply a sense of deep peace. For remote sessions, you will find a comfortable, calm, and quiet space in your own home, and we will have a call or text conversation while I go through the same ritual. There’s no pressure to talk or process during the session—it’s a time for you to just be. Afterward, I’ll give you space to gently return to the present moment and invite you to share your experience if you'd like. I'll also provide aftercare advice and how to connect with Reiki at home.

What should I wear or bring?

Wear comfortable clothing you can relax in—sweatpants, leggings, or loose layers work great. You don’t need to bring anything, but you’re welcome to bring a journal, a favorite crystal, or any item that helps you feel grounded and safe. Be sure to drink water before and after your session.

I have sensitivities to physical sensations or scents. Can you work with me?

Your comfort and sensory needs are always prioritized here. I offer sessions without incense and smoke cleansing upon request. Reiki can be offered hands-off without touch. If you're sensitive to sound, pressure, light, etc. we’ll work together to create a low-stimulation, soothing environment that honors your nervous system. You are always in control of your experience, and I’ll check in as often - or as little - as you prefer. I also offer virtual sessions if you prefer complete control of your environment. You are welcome to receive Reiki in the comfort of your own home.

Are your services/location accessible?

Yes! I am happy to provide reasonable accommodations to my clients. For in-person treatments, I have a spa table with a maximum weight capacity up 450 pounds, with dimensions of 84 in long x  24 in wide. It can be adjusted to several positions,. You are welcome to remain seated or in your assisted mobility device if you prefer to not get on the table. I also offer remote Reiki sessions that you can receive from the comfort of your own home.

Do you offer virtual sessions?
