A Gentle Practice Rooted in Ancient Wisdom
Reiki, Explained Simply
Reiki (pronounced ray-key) is a gentle, non-invasive healing practice that supports the body, mind, and spirit. You can think of it like this:
Reiki helps your body do what it already knows how to do - rest, reset, and heal - by clearing energetic blocks and creating a state of deep relaxation. Reiki supports nervous system realignment and creates space for natural transformation.
During a Reiki session, you lie down fully clothed while a practitioner lightly places their hands on or near your body. There's no massage, no manipulation - just calm, focused presence. Most people feel deeply relaxed, peaceful, and lighter after a session. Some experience emotional release, clarity, or energetic shifts.
There’s no need to “believe” in anything. Reiki works gently and naturally, whether you're deeply spiritual or simply seeking relief.
More on Reiki
The word Reiki comes from two Japanese characters:
-
Rei (霊) meaning “universal” or “spirit”
-
Ki (気) meaning “life energy” or "atmosphere"
Together, Reiki means “spiritually guided life energy.” It refers to the subtle energy that flows through all living things - a concept deeply rooted in many traditional healing systems, including those of Japan, China, and India. When this energy becomes imbalanced or blocked, we may feel emotionally, mentally, or physically unwell. Reiki gently helps to restore balance.
Reiki is not a religion and has no dogma. It doesn’t require effort or belief—just a willingness to receive and an openness to your body’s own natural intelligence.
A Practice Honoring Japanese Tradition
Reiki originated in Japan in the early 1900s, developed by Mikao Usui Sensei, a Japanese Buddhist and spiritual teacher. After a period of fasting and meditation on Mount Kurama, Usui experienced a profound spiritual awakening and began practicing and teaching what he called the Usui Reiki Ryōhō (Usui Spiritual Energy Healing Method).
This practice was passed down through a direct lineage of teachers and students, each carrying the tradition forward with care and integrity. I honor this lineage deeply.
As a Reiki practitioner, I am certified in Traditional Usui Reiki and just nine degrees removed from Usui Sensei himself - a lineage that reflects both reverence and responsibility. It’s important to me that this work is practiced with humility, respect, and cultural awareness - not as a trend or borrowed ritual, but as a sacred tradition rooted in Eastern philosophy and spiritual practice.
You’ll notice that at Pax Terra, we don’t try to westernize or repackage Reiki. Instead, we hold space for its original intent: quiet healing, spiritual alignment, and the restoration of energetic harmony.
